Life is simple. Dance.
A healing artist is afraid of time. In the Western culture, time is a linear concept. There are the “past” and the “future” to think about. A busy mind is always present in one of them. Rarely in the moment. Stuck in the purgatory of time, existence brings pain and the perception of time becomes an enemy.
Ichiro Kishimi in his book “The Courage to be Disliked” draws attention to the topic of time, among others. Specifically, to the art of being in the moment and its beneficial influence on establishing a happier relationship with the world. By working with hands, playing music, bringing awareness to your body: you are in the moment. The thought of time as an elastic band that stretches and shrinks depending on where you direct your attention was an inspiration for my work.
“Life is simple. Dance”. That is how you can make friends with time. Not by going against it, rushing or performing a headless chicken run. Tune into the moment. Flow. Only then you are able to listen to your intuition and unexpected opportunities unfold. The ones meant to occur on your path and to be heard.
I made this work and got afraid of it immediately. When the print was finished and I was writing down the title, the letters became small and shy. I was so stunned by the power of this idea, my destructive subconscious beliefs told me to hide. (Artists do that sometimes). My Resistance made me hide the work in a closet for a long time (ironically). Even though my hands, body and intuition showed me exactly what to do: I still needed time to confront that concept. To get the courage to face it.
Today I share the work “Life is simple. Dance”, as the feeling deserves to be alive.
